Supercharged HEMI Engine

At Prestige Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM, our trucks are designed to give you the power you need for tough jobs, which is why we love RAM HEMI® engines. Since their earliest days, these engines have been synonymous with power and dominance.

Origins

In 1951, Chrysler began experimenting with hemisphere-shaped engines, eventually adding V8 engines with the design to their newest models. This famous engine featured 331 cubic inches of displacement, giving it the name it would be known for—the “331 HEMI”. This was an incredible jump in power for automobile design, and further improvements led to the legendary, even larger “426 HEMI”, which drivers used to capture the top three spots in a dominating performance at the 1964 Daytona 500.

What Does It Do?

When the HEMI was first designed, car engines used a “flat head” design, which was cheaper to manufacture. However, the additional surface area added by the rectangular shape led to more wasted energy on each stroke of the engine. The HEMI design keeps the energy compressed and allows for larger valves for improved airflow and better performance.

What RAM Trucks Use HEMI Engines?

Many new RAM trucks feature a HEMI powertrain option for drivers who want to push the limits of performance. A 6.4-liter V8 HEMI engine comes standard on the 2023 RAM 3500, offering up to 410 horsepower and 18,210 pounds of towing capacity. HEMI engines are also available on the 2024 RAM 1500, so consider making a RAM custom order to add the supercharged V8 option, delivering up to 702 horsepower.
