EV Tax Credit 101

July 6th, 2022 by

Did you know — you can get an EV tax credit if you drive a new electric vehicle? We’re highlighting the credits and incentives available to you if you drive green. It’s just one of the many perks of buying an electric vehicle from Prestige Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM.

Federal Incentives

If you purchased an electric vehicle or plug-in electric vehicle after 2009, you could receive a tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit doesn’t apply to leases or pre-owned vehicles.

The value of your credit varies by the size of your EV’s battery. All-electric vehicles are often eligible for greater tax incentives than hybrid or plug-in hybrid EVs.

State Incentives

If your state has extra EV incentives, buying an electric vehicle has even more perks. Nevada has some great incentives that make the switch to electric energy a no-brainer:

  • Alternative fuel vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles are exempt from emissions inspections
  • Alternative fuel vehicles can park at parking meters for free
  • Energy-efficient vehicles can always drive in HOV lanes, regardless of the number of passengers

Charging Incentives

You might be able to pay less for electricity when you charge your electric vehicle at off-times (when most folks are using less energy). This benefit, called time-of-use pricing, may not be available in your area yet, so make sure to do your research.

You may also be eligible for tax credits that will help you buy and install an EV home charger. 30% of the total cost of your charging infrastructure — up to $1,000 — could be covered by the federal government.
