Five Reasons Your Jeep® Won’t Start

While there’s no doubt that a vehicle not starting is a major inconvenience, it doesn’t always mean you have a serious issue. According to our Jeep® service technicians at Prestige Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, these are a few of the likely culprits.  

Dead Battery 

A dead battery is one of the most common reasons a vehicle won’t start. To fix it, you’ll need another power source, either from another vehicle or a portable charger. After charging your battery, it’s important to have it inspected to make sure it’s now reliable.   

Battery Corrosion 

Not caring for your battery can also lead to issues. If the terminals of your battery become too dirty or corroded, it won’t be able to function properly. This can lead to a myriad of other problems, so make sure they are repaired or replaced.  

Bad Starter  

If your battery seems to be working fine, it’s very likely you have a starter issue. Your starter is responsible for getting your engine to fire. If you try to start your vehicle and hear nothing but a clicking noise, you likely need a new starter.  

Clogged Fuel Filter 

Your fuel filter is designed to keep contaminants in your fuel from reaching your fuel injection system and engine. However, if the filter becomes too clogged, it will keep the fuel from reaching your engine too. This can result in low fuel efficiency or even an engine misfire.  

Dead Key Fob 

Your key fob has to send a signal to your vehicle for it to start, which can’t happen if your battery is dead. Some vehicles have a backup system to start your vehicle, but you’ll still want to replace your battery ASAP.
